a graceful yet challenging form of exercise

Whether you're a beginner or an elite athlete, Pilates has something for people of all ages and levels of fitness. The apparatus offers support for beginners, or can be used to provide resistance for people looking to challenge their body.

If your fitness regime has been feeling a little flat of late, having a go at a new activity can revitalise it.  Taking a Pilates class might be a good way to add another dimension to your exercise routine.

In your class

Pilates is a group exercise class to enhance strength, posture, balance and stability.  It considers the body as a human kinetic chain using the fundamental Pilates techniques and exercises.  In the class you will work through exercises to music operating at the level that is right for you.

You do not need any prior Pilates experience to take the class as modifications and progressions will be demonstrated during the class.  Pilates aims to offset musculoskeletal imbalances and builds strength throughout the body. Strengthening the body like this helps to protect your joints and improve mobility.

If you’re aiming to improve your practical movement, the type that helps you to move about more freely day to day, then Pilates is ideal for you. It is a full body workout that helps to strengthen and stabilise your core thus improving your posture and flexibility.

You will need a mat for the class and occasionally props may come in handy, such as a strap, mini ball or small weights.  However, these are not essential – mats, blocks and straps will be available from us to use.
